To be an independent diver, it's vital to be able to navigate underwater. Just like on land, underwater navigation is a combination of using natural landmarks and compass work. The SSI Navigation course will teach you how to navigate with a compass and how to apply natural navigation skills. You will also learn how to estimate distances, navigate different search patterns, find your way to different marking points and to get back to the exit point at any time.
The Navigation course teaches you how to be an independent diver which is vital when conducting underwater research of any kind.
What do I need to start?
You have to already have completed the Open Water Diver Course with either SSI or PADI. Big Blue provides all equipment, boat trips, etc., for the duration of the course.

The course takes one day to complete, including 2 dives.
Day before course starts, You’ll be given a text book to read through
- 10am - 12pm: You'll meet with your Instructor & learn the theory behind the Navigation Course.
- 1pm - 5.30pm: We're out on the boat to go through some compass skills and navigation exercises.
