Big Blue Conservation - Koh Tao - Thailand

How did the swim first start out?

It all started on evening at the bar, with two Big Blue dive instructors thinking of ideas to raise awareness about shark finning. They organized a swim around Nang Yuan for them and 19 other swimmers, raising a total of 17,000 thai baht.

The swim was organized the following year, and has now become a annual event with participation from many diving locals across Koh Tao. Last year we hit a new record of 120,000 baht in donations with a total of 61 swimmers!

This year we are hoping to beat this record, and have just as many people support the cause at this year’s swim!

Where does the money go?

Where does the money go?

This year we are donating to a global and local organization. Locally we are supported Shark Guardian who travel to schools around Thailand to education children about sharks. Globally, we are supporting Sea Shepherd Austalia, and their existing conservation projects around Asia.

What can you do to support the sharks?

If you are on Koh Tao on the 13th August, come join us in the swim around Nang Yuan. If you are unable to make the main event, pop by after 7pm at the Big Blue Bar, and get the chance to win some great prizes such as spa vouchers, gym membership and dive equipment!

If you know anyone swimming in the fundraiser, show your support by sponsoring him or her. Every little bit counts and will go towards the campaign against shark finning or shark presentations for school children.
